Top European Sports Brand 'Masita' Confirms Support For Flying Officers Cup

One of Europe's biggest Sports Equipment brand, Masita on Monday in far-away Holland gave it's backing to the biggest Women Football Pre-season Championship in Africa, the Flying Officers Cup.

The Dutch Sportswear brand stamped their endorsement on the Women's Pre-season Championship when the President of Ratels Sports Development Foundation (RSDF) President, Barrister Paul Edeh was received at their head office in Mastritch, Holland on Monday.

Masita was founded in 1933 by the Mass family from Sittard and focus mainly on the trade and processing of sportswear, kitting clubs like Fortuna Sittard, Guinea National Team, Kiyovu Sports Rwanda, Mees Palace Football Academy Jos, Namungo Tanzania, KMV Tanzania, Wakriya Guinea and the many more.

While receiving Barrister Paul Edeh, the Chief Executive Officer of the top European Sportswear, Kurt Molin was full of praises for Edeh, who he said has invested massively into the growth of women's football in Nigeria and Africa. The top executive further went on to say that a partnership deal between Masita and Ratels Sports Development Foundation is on the verge of getting sealed. 

"We are thrilled to enter into a relationship with Ratels Sports Development Foundation and Naija Ratels, a promising and ambitious Club and we hope that this strategic partnership allows us to work closely with the club as they enter into this next phase .

Also in the meeting in Holland was Former Super Eagles and South Korea Men National team Head Coach, Bonfrere Joe, who described Barrister Paul Edeh as a man who should be emulated by many in the Football Cycle in Nigeria and Africa. 

Bonfrere Joe who was pioneer Technical Adviser of the Super Falcons, leading them to their first ever FIFA Women World Cup in China (1991), inspiring players like Ann Chiejine, Uche Eucharia, Marvis Ogun, Chioma Ajunwa and many more to greatness later on in their career expressed his happiness with  the project of Ratels Sports Development Foundation.

"It is a huge achievement from my brother, Barrister Paul Edeh. We need more of this to develop women's football in Africa and am impressed with what we have been able to see from the last two editions. 

"I would like to inform you that what you are doing is unprecedented and that's the reason I am giving my full support to this competition and am sure it would go a long way to help get women's football to it's right position in Africa and the world as a whole.

"I'm very hopeful and optimistic that this partnership with Masita is one of many partnerships that would be sealed by your foundation." 

He also hinted that he will be in Nigeria in the coming weeks for the 25th anniversary celebration of the Olympic Gold Medal won by  Nigeria. 

Also reacting, Mr Emmanuel Adukwu, the CEO of Mees Palace Football Academy, Jos who brokered the deal heaped praises on the Sports Brand that has continued to support teams in Africa.

Rite Foods, Ogun State Government Reiterate Commitment For Abeokuta 10KM Race

Organizers of the Abeokuta 10km Race, Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML) have confirmed that the 2021 edition of the event will hold on Saturday, November 13, 2021.

At a Press conference held in Abeokuta on Tuesday, Managing Director of NSML, Hon. Bukola Olopade noted that this edition tagged "Running For Naija" is strictly for indigenous runners.

Despite not having foreign athletes taking part, Hon. Olopade stated that winners will still be paid in dollars.

In his remarks, the former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in the Gateway state said "We have decided to maintain the monetary standard despite not having the foreign athletes. The support from our headline sponsors, Rite Foods has been tremendous and we realized that it is pertinent to celebrate the homegrown runners."

"Rite Foods Limited decided to take the headline title for this event because they want to promote everything Nigerian, and by the tag and modalities, this event stands for what they do."

The Nilayo Sports CEO also showered encomiums on the Prince Dapo Abiodun led Ogun state government for its giant strides and successes it has recorded.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ogun state, Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare expressed the state government's readiness to continue supporting the Abeokuta 10km Race on all front.

Dr. Oluwadare stated that the event is in tandem with the agenda of the government of the day under His Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun.

"On behalf of the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, I welcome everybody to this event, what we are doing today is in tandem with the the policy of his Excellency, youth engagement and empowerment is germaine in the plans, the government has also created an enabling environment to ensure that this type of event will thrive"

The brand manager of Rite Foods Management Limited, Miss Bolu Adedugbe said as title sponsors, their commitment is bigger and better as they have audaciously and fearlessly turned out to be part of the historic 10km Race in a bigger way.

"This year is going to be extremely different, we have ensured that the narrative of promoting everything Nigerian remains firm, we are taking it to the International sphere to promote our local talents as much as possible."

"On the 13th of November, it is going to be different, history will be made in a new way, it's going to be the first time racing in Abeokuta with one hundred percent Nigerians, it is also going to be different because we have a proudly Nigerian company that's fully behind the pioneers of this event."

On his part, the General manager of the event, retired Nigerian athlete, Dr. Yusuf Alli said the technical department has put several innovations in place to ensure that a hitch free race is witnessed.

Dr. Yusuf Alli warned that   the Abeokuta 10km Race organizers are maintaining their zero tolerance for cheating standard, hence the need for participants to abide strictly by the rules of the game.

Once the coast is clear for registration, Intending participants can register on the website abeokutamarathon.com, according to the project manager, Mr. Seyi Johnson, registration is Two Thousand Five Hundred Naira Only, (2,500).

He stressed that having reached out to stakeholders, it was pertinent to include the registration fee in order to have a decent number of interested participants, he said it's inline with the global best practices guiding road races across the world 

*Organizers Announce Prize Money For 2021 Abeokuta 10km Race*

Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), organizers of the Bigi Abeokuta 10KM Race have confirmed that winners in the men and women category of the event will go home with Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000) each.

At a Press conference held in Abeokuta today, it was also revealed that the first runner up and the second runner up in both categories are entitled to $1500 and $1000 each in that order.

Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Hon. Bukola Olopade made it known that there is also a category for special runners.

"We left out the wheelchair race in our other races, but we are reintroducing that in Abeokuta because the Rite Foods brand insisted that we do something for the special people".

For the November 13, 2021 event, the winner of the wheelchair race will go home with five hundred thousand naira, the first runner up will be presented with three hundred thousand naira, while the second runner up goes home with one hundred thousand naira only.

This edition of the Bigi Abeokuta 10KM Race will start at the Ake Palace and terminate at the M.K.O Abiola International Stadium, as against the first edition which had the Oloke Junction as the first port of call, the route has changed to ensure that all COVID-19 Safety measures are observed during the race.

Ghanaian top Football Journalist, Genevieve Naa Bardina-Quaye has described the Flying Officers Cup as a new approach to women's Football Pre-season Competition in Africa. 

Sixteen teams altogether, comprising thirteen Nigerian teams, and three others from Ghana and Benin Republic will compete for honours in Abuja from the 10th to the 24th of October 2021. 

Naa Abardina-Quaye while speaking from her base in Accra, the capital of Ghana said the Organisers of the Flying Officers Cup have done something that has never been achieved before in Africa Women's Football history. The well-travelled journalist went on to add that the Pre-season Championship will give teams representing their countries at the TotalEnergies CAFWCL the right atmosphere to get a good preparation ahead of their battles in Egypt. 

"The Flying Officers Cup is a competition that is being talked about here in Ghana. Teams are eager to compete and am glad that teams will represent Ghana at the competition this year. 

"For me, I see it as a big achievement for the Organisers, this is the third edition and am sure it would get bigger by the years. Possibly, next year, we can get teams from Southern, Eastern and Northern Africa compete in the Competition. 

"It only shows quality, when teams like Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and the rest compete with Clubs from Ghana and Benin Republic in a Competition that isn't Organisers by WAFU or CAF. It clearly has to show the kind of dreams the Organisers have for Women's Football and special kudos should also go the the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) for providing an enabling environment for this kind of Competition." The Flying Officers Cup is a Women's Football Pre-season Championship sponsored by Ratels Sports Development Foundation and this year's edition will see teams from Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic compete for honours in Abuja from the 10th-24th October 2021.

2021 V/ball Nations Cup: Nigeria qualify for Q/finals after 16 years

Nigeria breaks 16 years jinx by qualifying for the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2021 African Men’s Senior Volleyball Nations Championship in Rwanda.

Usman Abdallah’s men dug deep to defeat Ethiopia 3-1 (25-20, 25-12, 32-34, 25-17) in their last match of Pool B.

An elated head coach of Nigeria men’s team, Usman Abdallah expressed satisfaction with his team’s display against the Ethiopia and he is now aiming to spring up a surprise in the quarterfinals

“It was a good performance from the team today, we played really well though it was a tough game from the Ethiopians,” Abdallah said after the game.

“I am happy we could deal with the danger they posed in the first set but they became more determined in the 3rd set where they eventually won by 34-32 points”.

Abdallah said Nigeria wants to better her position in this year’s Nation’s Championship.

In 2019, Nigeria was missing at the African Nations Championship due to unseen circumstances; in 2017, we finished 13th position which was very poor. This time around, Nigeria wants to make a statement at this year’s edition”.

Nigeria will battle Cameroon in their quarterfinal match at the Kigali Arena on Saturday by 4pm.

Flying Officers Cup 2021: NFF Endorses Prestigious Women Football Pre-season Tournament

Nigeria's Football Governing Body, The NFF has officially endorsed the third edition of the prestigious Flying Officers Cup billed to hold next month in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. 

The Federation gave her  backing to the biggest Women Football Pre-season Tournament in Africa, through a letter signed by NFF Technical Director Austin Eguaveon on behalf of the General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi. 

In the letter of endorsement, Sanusi wrote: "We express the warm compliment of the President, Executive Board Members, Management and Staff of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). 

"We hereby give you approval and thereby endorse the laudable competition by your Organization, Ratels Sports Development Foundation. 

He further commended the Flying Officers Cup Organisers for their efforts and commitment to the development of  women football in Nigeria. 

"We are aware of your efforts in always helping the Girl-child and your deep commitment to develop the women's game in the country. 

"We however have to reiterate that at every stage of the Competition, the Technical department of the Nigeria Football Federation must be carried along. 

In her reaction to the competition's endorsement, the General Coordinator of the 2021 Flying Officers Cup, Dr. Victoria Nlemigbo Esq  thanked the President, NFF General Secretary, the entire board and staff of the Federation for their unalloyed support for the competition and for Ratel Sports Development Foundation in general. 

"Getting the NFF's support for the Flying Officers Cup is very key and fundamental. This shows the work that the planning committee has put in place and continues to put in place to make the Competition a huge success. 

"So far, sixteen teams have already expressed and committed to participate in the competition and we are looking forward to hosting them in this epic and expected  perfect Tournament.

Also speaking, the President of Ratels Sports Development Foundation, the major sponsors of the Pre-season Championship noted that the official endorsement from the Nigeria Football Federation, which is the body in charge of football competitions and activities in Nigeria, further shows that the competition will be bigger and better this year. 

The Sports Philanthropist further charged everyone involved with the planning of the Pre-season Championship to keep all hands in deck to ensure a very successful outing.

"We are proud of what we have been able to achieve so far and with supports from the NFF, NWFL and all Clubsides involved, we are sure and optimistic that the Competition will be a very good one. In the coming days, we shall be rolling out more plans about the Flying Officers Cup. I want to appreciate the NFF and the NWFL for their moral and technical supports." He Concluded. 

The Flying Officers Cup is the biggest Women Football Pre-season Championship in Africa with Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens emerging winners in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

N6.5million For Grabs As 3rd VEMP Nat’l Tennis Open Get Serve-off Date

About 6.5million would be won at the 3rd Edition of the VEMP National Open Tennis Championship. 

The tournament is being bankrolled by VEMP Limited with a whopping N3, 250,000 the total prize money for the men’s and N3, 250,000 for the women’s events. 

The national open organized by VEMP Limited in conjunction with Nigeria Tennis Federation(NTF) would serve-off from Thursday, September 24 to Saturday, October 2 2021 at the National Tennis Centre, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. 

The tournament which is expected to attract about 250 players across the country will see participants battle for the ultimate prize in four categories namely Men’s Singles, men’s doubles, Women’s Singles, and Women’s doubles. 

There will be three days of qualifiers for men which are in a round of 64 while that of women will be round of 32 with ITF bronze-badge referee, Saidu Musa as tournament director.

The main draw for men and women is 32 while the men’s double will also be a round of 16 draws. The women’s double will be a round of 16.

No fewer than 12 Outdoor Courts will be used for the Games as Slazenger has been selected as official ball of the tournament. 

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Chairman Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF)  Ifedayo Akindoju commended the VEMP Limited for their great contributions towards the development of Tennis in the country adding that the tournament shall be guided by the rules established by the International Tennis Federation and the Code of Conduct of the NTF.

“We want to commend the efforts of VEMP Limited for their contribution to Tennis in the country, the 3rd edition was supposed to hold last year but it couldn’t due to scheduling issues, but we are glad that the game can go on this year. 

“All the players are expected to sign-in on the site also provide their proper means of identification: National Identity Card or Drivers Licence Or International Passport or Voters Card, we have also put up measures to ensure that  COVID-19 protocol is observed throughout the duration of the tournament,” he said. 

Recall that the 2nd edition of the VEMP Open in 2019 saw both Sylvester Emmanuel and Oyinlomo Quadre emerged champions in the men’s singles and women’s singles respectively, as they are expected to defend titles at the start of the tournament.

Eagles fired up for Cape Verde tie as Kalu and Ebuehi return negative Covid-19 test results

Super Eagles had a feel of the Estádio Municipal Adérito Sena today as preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Cape Verde hit a crescendo.

The training which lasted 45 minutes had the coaches perfect tactics for the match and during that session, the team bubbled even more when reports came in from Nigeria that a second Covid-19 test run on Samuel Kalu and Tyrone Ebuehi had returned negative.

Both players had their initial Covid-19 test results come out positive and the team, in following the Covid-19 protocol fully, had to get the players to isolate while the other 19 players traveled to Cape Verde. 

Media Officer of the team, Babafemi Raji explained that it was necessary to take take the appropriate safety steps by having the affected players stay away from the team while waiting for the result of the second test.

"Yes we had two test results return positive and we were duty bound to adhere strictly to laid down safety protocols which we did. The good news is that the second test results have returned negative. We will surely miss Kalu and Ebuehi, but the entire coaching crew led by Mr. Gernot Rohr has worked hard and we don't want to lose focus. Our aim is to win and get all three points", Raji stated.

The Super Eagles will take on Cape Verde on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 3pm(Cape Verde Time) which will be 5pm Nigeria time.
