Picking up the pieces from Berackiah/Abigol Coaching Clinic in Ijebu-Ode, As Clinic Train Move To Asaba

Picking up the pieces from Berackiah/Abigol Coaching Clinic in Ijebu-Ode, As Clinic Train Move To Asaba

We have made constructive efforts at providing you with  all the bit  that made the lot of the just concluded South West Zone phase of the Berackiah/Abigol Football Coaching Clinic.

Featuring about 12 sessions of training which includes Theory and Practical, the clinic provided a great opportunity for Nigerian Coaches to learn, re-learn and un-learn football concepts of various ideology.

Gian Marco as a Goalkeeper Trainee is one of the resource person from Italy. He was able to share his knowledge with Nigerian Coaches on the fundamentals of coaching and getting the best out of goalkeepers.

Speaking to Berackiah/Abigol Media Team at the sideline of the event he said:

"I feel honored to be here and I want to thank all the people who have worked to make this project happen and make it possible for me to come"

Marco believes he is just privileged to impact on the coaches and not  a 'teacher' who wants to teach what has not been taught before.

"What I want to do is to exchange my knowledge with the locals. I have found very   prepared coaches in this course and so I am finding my self comfortable. So it's just a first step and every journey begins with a step and we are to start.

Marco spoke highly of Nigerian Coaches for keeping the passion alive despite the myriad of socio-economic challenges and difficulties they have got to deal with.

"I admire their passion because in Europe where I came from ,we have plenty of infrastructure which are lacking here in Africa and despite that they didn't quit and they are working in situation that we in Europe can't even imagine,if we find such a situation with the lack of materials, infrastructure, most of the people in Europe would  have quit".

"I am not teaching anything it is a win to win project,I learn something they learn something we are exchanging Knowledge so I am feeling better with that Marco said.

From NLO to NPFL : Marco has a dream

"I want this project to reach the top most especially as we are starting with the lower tier of the league,we want to reach the second tier and the top division of the league and even all over Africa.

Roberto Bassi is another resource person who have taken the participants through the dynamism of the game .

He said in his words: "I am very happy to be here.

The last few days we have spent, the level of Nigerian Coaches concentration to the programme is good and they are willing to learn so I hope this programme will in the future be a point of reckoning"

Mathew Olorunleke is the CEO of Abigol Football Management and a co - facilitator of the clinic. As one of the brain behind the project, he believes the potential of Nigerian Coaches will help them scale the height coupled with what the clinic has offered.

"It is not easy this is the first time, we are trying to cope to make it better and I must say from what I have seen, the Coaches are able to learn and are trying to cope as well.

Bridging the Gap and hopes

For Mathew, there is always the need to do more. He expressed the need to bridge the gap between talents and those who tend to develop them.

If Nigeria can have one of the expensive players in the market and we have players that are doing well in Europe, It will be very wrong to say Nigeria Coaches are not good. For us, we have discovered the missing link and now keen to bridge the gap.

He argued that if Nigeria players are doing well in abroad, that means Nigerian Coaches are good just that there is need to keep developing themselves in tune with what is obtainable in the advanced world.

Coach Siji Lagunju is the Assistant Director of Training and Development at the NFF and as veteran Coach himself, he preached  the significance for Coaches to develop themselves taking in to cognisance the principles of intellectuality, technicality, tactically , medically and physically.

High Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde was the cynosure of all eyes at the 5-day clinic.

An 'encyclopedia many will call him. The CAF/FIFA instructor urged all the participants to be inquisitive, impactful and be selfless in the course of their duty saying that integrity is another integral part of the job.

While noting the parallels between football administrators and coaches, the octogenarian appealed to all the participants not to lose focus and continue to do their best for the country adding that there must be unity of purpose in their ranks across the country.

116 coaches who attended the coaching clinic have now been given their certificates with the hope that the effects of their new acquired knowledge will bear positive impact on Nigeria football.

The clinic train will now move to South South and South East Zone where schedules will be held from 1st-5th of February in Asaba, Delta State.

The North Central and North East Zone programme will also holds in Lafia, Nasarawa State from 8th-12th February.

Dear Shehu Dikko, The Time To Be Firm Is Now

*Dear Shehu Dikko, The Time To Be Firm Is Now*

Bayo Adegboyega

Whenever I remember the name Shehu Dikko, the excitement that comes with it is always  immeasurable, anytime I come across his picture, his level of intelligence strikes my mind and I'm always happy that a very competent individual is in charge of our elite Football League.

A few times I have met the lanky Administrator from the home of hospitality, I am always eager to ask for a photograph, I know he's a man that any sane Football lover will want to associate with and twice, he has granted my wish by posing for a picture with me despite the difference in height and status.

Shehu Dikko no doubt is a bundle of intelligence, an emblem of confidence and one man that can do magic with a formidable team and the "enabling environment".

In all spheres, we have seen what the leadership of the League management company LMC can do under the leadership of Shehu Dikko with the way the Nigeria Professional Football League 2021 season has started, the partnership with Redstrike is a huge plus, games are back on Television, contents with added quality are flying everywhere with the NPFL getting the positive image it needs to rise and rise.

Nonetheless, my personal grouse has being the manner at which clubs fail to fulfil their part in players contract, I feel the league will be stable if all clubs will pay salaries and other entitlements as and when due.

Even if issues would arise, let's get away from indebtedness and see the magic wand of money.

Shehu Dikko is a man who believes in lodging complains through the right channels, he has received complaints and has acted swiftly and ensured some players were paid their entitlements in the past.

Preemptively, I would have said Shehu Dikko is too comfortable or he has relaxed in making sure the LMC implements and enforce what the Framework and regulations talked about, but at the same time, I have to admit that he could be working on so many cases behind the scene and the results will be out soon for everyone to see.

There are instances, players have gone through the proper channel based on the advise and or directive of the LMC boss, but till date, they have not been attended to.

The compliance unit desk of the LMC is at the moment filled with complaints and I wonder how long it will take for the players to smile to the bank for what they worked for.

Some people are saying Dikko is too close to the club owners, others are of the view that the NFF second vice president is too considerate and it will take him time to do what is right as per hammering erring clubs on the issue of overdue payables, I really doubt though because he has done some laudable projects since assuming office.

I am however advising Alhaji Dikko to tighten his grip at the LMC helm, league followers are keen about the right processes and since he is a result oriented man, I will be extremely glad to see a man who roars when it's necessary and smile when the clubs are doing the right thing

The 'Galaticas' have lost their two opening games and have been disappointing infront of goal, scoring just once in their last two encounters. Abia Angels lost narrowly to Royal Queens on Wednesday and will be counting on a victory against Dreamstar Ladies on matchday three.

#Osun Babes 🆚 Pelican Stars

League football will be returning to the Osogbo City Stadium, for the first time in almost a year and the 'Omoluabi Queens' will go into this encounter with the hope of adding to the three point garnered in Uyo on matchday one.

Pelican Stars knows that they have to start picking points early in the league, as they have been able to get only a point in two matches. Edat Egan and his ladies will be aiming to silent the Osogbo fans with a favourable result. The two teams have full squad of players to pick from. It's promises to be an interesting encounter.

#Ibom Angels 🆚 Royal Queens.

Ibom Angels will be keen to put their poor start behind them and face a tough challenge against the young girls from Warri.

The 'Canadian Geese' have proven they can win games after their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Abia Angels last week. They have 3 points while their opponent on Wednesday have only a point, which makes it neccesary for the Moruf Adeyemo side to want valuable points against Royal Queens.
