Engr Ahmed Olaide charges Kwara United players to avoid complacency in NPFL second round

Engr Ahmed Olaide charges Kwara United players to avoid complacency in NPFL second round

One of Kwara United most dedicated, committed and supportive fans known as Engr Olaide Ahmed has enjoined Abdullahi Biffo and his wards to produce another good performance in this season's NPFL second round.

Kwara United against all odds ended the first round as leaders with Biffo and his soldiers getting three away wins at Plateau United, Sunshine Stars and Katsina United.

Over the years, Engr Ahmed Olaide's love for Kwara United cannot be overemphasized considering his rapport with the coaching crew, players and brilliant advices to the management.

Despite his busy schedules as one of the best Engineers in Kwara State, Ahmed Olaide would still travel on his own most times by air to watch Kwara United at away grounds.

While speaking with Kwara United Media, Engr Ahmed Olaide stated clearly that he is satisfied with the Harmony Boys' performance in the first stanza of the season.

Olaide also praised Governor Abdulrahman and Kwara United board under the leadership of Kumbi Titiloye, Badawiy for their efforts on Kwara United this season.

"Although we were forced to draws in some of our home games, but I must commend the coaching crew and players for this achievement finishing the first round in first position.

"The second round will be tough as that is when the market will be full with real businessmen, but I have the belief that Kwara United will do well," the Civil Engineer explained.

Kwara United were able to win 10 games, drawn 6 and lost 3 in their first 18 games of the season which remains a perfect result for Biffo and his soldiers.

Kwara United will be traveling to Lafia with boosted morales for their NPFL match-day 20 battle against Nasawara United.

Their last visit in Lafia ended in a 1-0 win for the Harmony Boys.

We are ready for Katsina United - says Kwara United gaffer Abdullahi Biffo

We are ready for Katsina United - says Kwara United gaffer Abdullahi Biffo

Abdullahi Biffo who is the handler of NPFL giants Kwara United has confirmed his wards' readiness for today's battle against his former club Katsina United.

Biffo and his warriors will be going into this match with their noses in front having recorded an emphatic 5-0 win over Adamawa United in their last game in Ilorin in which Stephen Jude netted hat-trick against the visitors.

Katsina United have not been superb at home this season in the NPFL as they have only won once in their last three games and they will seek the wherewithal to pull themselves out of their present predicament.

But beating Kwara United this afternoon will be a great task for Coach Baldwin Bazuaye and his men considering the fact that Katsina United have only beaten the Harmony Boys once in their history.

These two teams have met four times in competitive football with Kwara United having three wins, while Katsina United have one.

Katsina United's only win ever over Kwara United was on March 17, 2019 when Martins Ursule's 13th minute goal condemned the Harmony Boys to a defeat in an encounter the hosts finished with 10 men as former ABS captain Chinedu Ajanah was sent off in the 68th minute.

However, the last game between Kwara United and Katsina United ended in a 2-0 win for Harmony Boys on January 12, 2020 with Issah Saidu and Waheed Afolabi netting the two goals.

"I was here before as Katsina United coach and I know how things work here as I hope it will be of great advantage for my players in today's game.

"My players were awesome in our last game against Adamawa and the win will put them in right sense to get good result today against Katsina United," Biffo explained to Kwara United media.

After today's match-day 18 encounter against Katsina United, Kwara United will be traveling back to Ilorin on Monday where they will start preparation for their next game against Nasarawa United.

MFM record first ever  victory over Enyimba Int’l

For the first time in their history, Mountain of Fire Miracles Ministries FC beat seven-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Enyimba, 1-0 in Matchday 15 rescheduled fixture played on Thursday at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium.

The Olukoya Boys bounce back to winning ways as they boost their chances of survival with the win over the visitors after three consecutive defeats to Akwa United, Rivers United and Kano Pillars.

Before the match, Enyimba were on eight games unbeaten run in the league but they failed to beat the Olukoya Boys as Ebenezer Odeyemi earned his team the crucial win with a 22nd strike.

Speaking after the game, MFM FC interim coach Gabriel Olalekan showered praises on his team for the crucial victory over Enyimba.

“It was a tough game but I must give kudos to my boys for their performance today.

“ I think everyone is excited with this victory and I’m as well too because it’s an important one. We were at 17th position on the league table before the game but now we have moved to 14th spot.

“We just have to build on this victory as we approach other matches with the right mentality and I believe the sky will be our starting point.

The win has taken MFM to 14th place on the log  with 20 points from possible 51 points from 17 NPFL games. They will face Jigawa Golden Stars in their next league match at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna State.

Kwara United condole with Lobi Stars over death of Team Manager Imenger

The management, staff, and players of NPFL leaders Kwara United wish to condole with Lobi Stars over the heartbreaking demise of their Team Manager Barnabas Imenger.

Nigerian football fraternities were all thrown into deep mourning on Monday following the painful death of the former Super Eagles star.

Until his death, Imenger was said to have battled against sickness before he embarked on a journey of no return.

In an official statement, Kwara United prayed that God should grant the late football icon eternal rest and be the strength for all his family members.

"Imenger's death came a shocking one for us at Kwara United and we want to commiserate with everyone at Lobi Stars, his family and the people of Benue state.

"We pray that God in His Infinite Mercies will forgive him and give him eternal rest in Paradise," Kwara United stated.

Imenger is the father of former Kwara United star Nenen who played 58 games for the Harmony Boys between 2010 and 2012 netting 23 goals.

Meanwhile, Lobi Stars are currently occupying 9th position on the NPFL table with 25 points after 16 games played so far.

My NPFL Match day 11 picks On Bet9ja

Match day eleven fixtures will take centre stage today in the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL, following the trend, there is a possibility of having shocking results in some match venues today, my picks below.

MFM vs Adamawa United.

The church boys will hope to bounce back from two consecutive loses after their disappointing home loss to Heartland was followed by the 1-0 defeat suffered at Kano Pillars.

On the part of Adamawa United, they are 20th on the log, they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by FC Ifeanyi Ubah the last time out so it should be an easy ride for the Church boys in Lagos. MFM to win this.

Sunshine Stars vs Heartland.

Two sides that are comfortable playing anywhere whether home or on away soil, Sunshine will be basking on the Euphoria of picking a point at Wikki Tourists last weekend while Heartland will hope to pick up from their 2-0 win over Lobi Stars, however, Sunshine Stars are the team with momentum and will not want to drop more points at home at this stage. A win for Sunshine Stars.

Abia Warriors vs Warri Wolves

Imama Amapakabo tutored Abia Warriors started late though, but for a team that defeated Rangers 1-0 the last time out, beating fellow relegation battlers Warri Wolves who are 19th on the log should not be an issue, the home side will take this.

Lobi Stars vs Kano Pillars

The two teams on their days can score goals, even though Pillars have picked points on the road this season, it will be dicey betting against a wounded Lobi that lost to heartland recently, while it's almost certain that Lobi will get at least a point in the game, Kano Pillars with Nyima Nwagua, Rabiu Alli and others can score goals, so my selection is Over 1.5

Enugu Rangers vs Kwara United

Rangers are coming off a defeat at Abia Warriors and they face table toppers Kwara United who have amassed 21 points in 10 NPFL games this season, it may end all square, but both teams will likely score so my safe take is Over 1.5

FC Ifeanyi Ubah vs Katsina United

FC Ifeanyi Ubah may not be everyone's favourite at this point in time, but the best way to get out of the relegation battle is to gradually win games and amass points anywhere, they were able to get a 1-1 draw against Adamawa United last time out and this time against a tricky Katsina United who pipped Jigawa Golden Stars 1-0 last time out, Coach Uche Okagbue must set his boys out to get the job done at home. I see a slim FC Ifeanyi Ubah Victory.

CAF: Algerian Referee Hails Enyimba Stadium Drainage

Nigeria  football fans in their ignorance took to social media few minutes into the CAF Confederation Cup play-off tie between Enyimba of Aba and Rivers United, calling for the head of the contractors incharge of the Enyimba international stadium due to the heavy downpour that left the pitch waterlogged after just 10 minutes of play.

Most of these fans felt disappointed that a pitch that was laid just about three years ago, shouldn't be in such a mess, knowing the huge resources invested into putting it in it's present state.

However, the center referee for that match, Mehdi ABID CHAREF from Algeria has showered praises on the brains behind the Enyimba international stadium playing pitch, describing the turf as marvelous.

In what could be seen as the case of a prophet not being appreciated by his kinsmen, Charef said in over 15 years of officiating CAF matches on the continent, he has never seen a pitch as good as this. He said the fact that the water on the pitch dried off after just 10minutes was a miracle.

Speaking to top officials of Enyimba of Aba who will not want their names mentioned for obvious reasons, the referee said he had to call off the match when it became obvious that the pitch was waterlogged and the ball was no longer bouncing very well as required by the rules.

Few minutes after ordering the players into the dressing rooms, he blew the whistle calling them out again. He said he did so, because after doing a test alongside his two assistant referees, they were shocked and marveled at what they saw. This is miraculous he screamed as two top officials of Enyimba nodded their heads in agreement.

Enyimba of Aba won on the day by a lone goal and will visit Port Harcourt in a few days time for the return leg.

Kalu relieved to help Katsina United dim Jigawa Golden Stars

Kalu relieved to help Katsina United dim Jigawa Golden Stars

Katsina United striker Samuel Kalu has conceded that the 1-0 win over Jigawa Golden Stars has given them ‘more belief’.

Kalu scored to give the Changi Boys the win, and the forward insisted that it was a well-earned victory in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.

“We knew that it was going to be a difficult game, Jigawa Golden Stars are a team that fight, they maintain their pressure on you for the duration of the match,” he told reporters.

“We were up to the task, we were at our level, we won and that’s the most important thing and now we have to continue working.

“This result gives us a bit of more belief. We are pleased with the game and hope to do more in subsequent encounters.

“Everything is the same, but it is true that we don’t need 20 passes to create a chance, sometimes we can do it with four or five touches.

“We’re not changing the system, we’re adapting it.

“It’s a pleasure to be in the starting team. I’m very pleased and I’ll try to take advantage of the minutes I’m given. I have to continue working.”

Tebo Franklin sad with "disappointing" Nasarawa United loss

Tebo Franklin sad with "disappointing" Nasarawa United loss

Nasarawa United defender Tebo Franklin has described his side's 1-0 defeat to Plateau United in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) week seven on Friday as "disappointing" and "frustrating".

NPFL leaders Nasarawa United were regarded as the favourites to win Friday's match, but the Solid Miners slumped to their first defeat of the season at the Jos International Stadium.

First-half goal from Mohamed Zulkifilu ultimately proved to be the difference as the Abdu Maikaba managed team picked up victory, but Tebo Franklin also known as NPFL Sergio Ramos was eager to quickly turn his focus to the future and insists that there is still plenty of time to make up for the result.

"Really disappointing. To concede the goal like we did is very frustrating. We came in at half time a bit deflated. We picked ourselves up and played a better second half but it was frustrating," Tebo Franklin said.

"It is the first loss of the season. Still early days. We won't put pressure on ourselves. There is no outside pressure. We know our strengths and weaknesses. We go again in the next game. There are still a lot to play and we should be positive about that."

Dear Shehu Dikko, The Time To Be Firm Is Now

*Dear Shehu Dikko, The Time To Be Firm Is Now*

Bayo Adegboyega

Whenever I remember the name Shehu Dikko, the excitement that comes with it is always  immeasurable, anytime I come across his picture, his level of intelligence strikes my mind and I'm always happy that a very competent individual is in charge of our elite Football League.

A few times I have met the lanky Administrator from the home of hospitality, I am always eager to ask for a photograph, I know he's a man that any sane Football lover will want to associate with and twice, he has granted my wish by posing for a picture with me despite the difference in height and status.

Shehu Dikko no doubt is a bundle of intelligence, an emblem of confidence and one man that can do magic with a formidable team and the "enabling environment".

In all spheres, we have seen what the leadership of the League management company LMC can do under the leadership of Shehu Dikko with the way the Nigeria Professional Football League 2021 season has started, the partnership with Redstrike is a huge plus, games are back on Television, contents with added quality are flying everywhere with the NPFL getting the positive image it needs to rise and rise.

Nonetheless, my personal grouse has being the manner at which clubs fail to fulfil their part in players contract, I feel the league will be stable if all clubs will pay salaries and other entitlements as and when due.

Even if issues would arise, let's get away from indebtedness and see the magic wand of money.

Shehu Dikko is a man who believes in lodging complains through the right channels, he has received complaints and has acted swiftly and ensured some players were paid their entitlements in the past.

Preemptively, I would have said Shehu Dikko is too comfortable or he has relaxed in making sure the LMC implements and enforce what the Framework and regulations talked about, but at the same time, I have to admit that he could be working on so many cases behind the scene and the results will be out soon for everyone to see.

There are instances, players have gone through the proper channel based on the advise and or directive of the LMC boss, but till date, they have not been attended to.

The compliance unit desk of the LMC is at the moment filled with complaints and I wonder how long it will take for the players to smile to the bank for what they worked for.

Some people are saying Dikko is too close to the club owners, others are of the view that the NFF second vice president is too considerate and it will take him time to do what is right as per hammering erring clubs on the issue of overdue payables, I really doubt though because he has done some laudable projects since assuming office.

I am however advising Alhaji Dikko to tighten his grip at the LMC helm, league followers are keen about the right processes and since he is a result oriented man, I will be extremely glad to see a man who roars when it's necessary and smile when the clubs are doing the right thing

Defender Franklin denies transfer link

Defender Franklin denies transfer link

Nasarawa United central defender Tebo Franklin has said that reports claiming he is looking to leave The Solid Miners are false.

Rumours had been circulating that the player was keen elsewhere in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Tebo has been one of the shinning lights of Nasarawa United as they zoomed to the top of the NPFL table with 14 points, making six starts so far.

Such an important role has led to speculation that he might be looking at opportunities elsewhere.

However the player who models his game around Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, has pledged his loyalty to the club for the foreseeable future: "I just want to deny what has been in the press about my transfer. It isn't true at all. I am always committed to Nasarawa United."

All Hail Sir Kensington Adebutu ( Baba Ijebu )! The man on a mission to revive grassroots football

All Hail Sir Kensington Adebutu ( Baba Ijebu )! The man on a mission to revive grassroots football

Over the years, grassroot football in Nigeria has suffered unfold hardship due to the absence of reliable and competent corporate sponsorship. Every big company or corporate bodies have their attention fixed on the NPFL or the Super Eagles, obviously because they want instant mileage and recognition.

The Nigeria National League and the Nationwide league have gone caps in hands begging for sponsors to keep the leagues afloat and kudos must be giving to the likes of bet9ja owned by the chairman of Remo stars football club, Kunle Soname.

It is on record that they single handedly sponsored the NNL for two seasons.

Expectations rose to the heavens when the chairman/CEO Nilayo sports company, Bukola Olopade was appointed Chief Executive officer of the league. Many were confident that based on his track records, the NNL will experience a new lease of life.

That was exactly what happened as Nilayo sports marketing agency set the ball rolling from day one as the sponsors came in, in their numbers. However the politics of Nigeria football coupled with the behind the scene maneuverings, forced the CEO to quit after just a few months in office.

His departure left the league in total shambles. There was not willing sponsors and those already in, left without a formal goodbye.

Then just last year, the chairman of the league board and member of the executive committee of the NFF, Chidi Okenwa died leaving the nation in rude shock.

His exit, meant there was a vacancy to be filled and the NFF in their wisdom went for a willing ally, a man who as chairman Senate committee of sports for over 6years has failed to stamp his authority or make a mark for all to see or appreciate.

So to many, it was a big surprise to see that the NNL Congress held in his home town of Abakaliki on Friday started with some ray of hope as another betting company was unveiled as title sponsors of the league.

Unfortunately, today's ceremony was without the usual fanfare befitting for an event of this magnitude.

This is because the organizers were shy of publicity or didn't want the media to ask probing questions regarding the full details of the deal and what it has for the clubs.

From the outside, many will want to use this opportunity to once again thank the honorable minister of youth and sports, Mr Sunday Dare who has continuously emphasized the need to develop sports at the grassroots. In his commitment and drive to actualize this dream, he promised to revive Nigeria sporting facilities and started off with the Moshood Abiola international stadium in Abuja, the Katsina stadium in Daura and the National stadium in Lagos.

Africa's richest man and renowned businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has promised to finish rehabilitation work at the Moshood Abiola international stadium before the end of the first quarter of 2021 while Sir Kensington Adebutu, a very close friend and ally to Mr Sunday Dare has rolled out the wheels in Lagos as work is in top gear.

Many are quick to suggest that the Sports minister has helped to increase private and corporate sponsors passion and love for Nigeria sports. The Oyo state born former journalist turn politician is a no nonsense result driven and passionate man who will stop at nothing  but the best.

It will therefore not be a surprise that Dare who at one point rose in support of the women's league when they went caps in hands begging for support ahead of the season opening congress has used his connections to once again bail the NNL from obvious collapse.

We only hope that the league organizers will leverage on this support and give the sponsors the expected mileage that will give them joy and the zeal to hang on for a long time.

Sir Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu, is a native of Iperu Remo in Ikenne township of Ogun state.

Not only is Sir Kensington a successful business mogul, he also continues to contribute his quota to humanity. The Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation (KAAF), Medical Laboratory and Maternity Centre was established in 2005 to contribute to the cause of humanity. It is a fully equipped medical facility with state of art equipment and qualified personnel.

Baba Ijebu is a recipient of several awards; among them are: Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) both conferred by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

He is a gentle family man and has committed his resources to the education of his children, many of whom are directors in his company, politicians, and successful businessmen. Notable among his children is Mr. Adesegun Adebutu, CEO of Petrolex, an integrated energy conglomerate that provides services spanning across refining, storage, distribution and retailing of petroleum products

Tebo Franklin rues missed chances against Adamawa United

Tebo Franklin rues missed chances against Adamawa United

The much talked about Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL Match Day 4 tie between Adamawa United FC finally ended in a barren draw and defender, Uchenna Tebo Franklin has expressed mixed feelings over the result.

In a chat with newsmen on arrival from Gombe, the no nonsense centre back said: "It wasn't the result we wanted, but all hope wasn't lost as we came out with one point.

"We had resolved and worked hard for all three points, but in football you win but some give you unexpected results.

"We also had chances if wrapping up the game, but mother luck didn't smile on us, as we threw away a penalty.

The solid Miners sit 4th on the NPFL table with 8 points after four rounds of matches, picking an away win and a draw, and the former FC Vitosha Bistritsa loanee believes the Lafia based side can challenge for honours this term.

"I strongly believe we can have a successful campaign in the league this season, we've got a good team and we're bonding well so far.

"This is arguably one of our best starts to the season in recent times and we're ready to make the most of it.

Tebo Franklin eyes Adamawa United scalp

Tebo Franklin eyes Adamawa United scalp

Nasarawa United FC center back, and man of the match award winner in the Match Day 3 duel of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL, against Kano Pillars FC, Tebo Franklin has sent a message of hope to the fans of his side, that the team maintains absolute focus as they visit Adamawa United FC in their next fixture in Gombe.

The fearless energetic defender who spoke to news men on his team's arrival in Gombe, stated that they are in Gombe State for a mission against Adamawa United FC, hence the need to stay focused and determined, adding that this particular fixture last season was a bitter pill to his side.

"We're in Gombe for a mission, so we're staying focused and determined, said Franklin, who recorded his first NPFL assist in his side's away win at Heartland on Match Day 2.

"We left Gombe empty handed last season when we met with Adamawa United FC, but this time we're ready to prove a point.

The Solid Miners are currently enjoying one of their best starts to a season in recent times, picking 7 points from a possible 9, and Franklin believes the quality of the team's technical crew led by coach Bala Nikyu, has greatly impacted on the team both in character and performance.

"Our technical crew has been excellent so far, and they're responsible for the output of the entire team, he said.

"They've always given us reasons to face each game at a time, with determination and discipline, concluded Franklin.

Villarreal sign 36 Lion wonderkid Quadri Liameed on loan

Villarreal sign 36 Lion wonderkid Quadri Liameed on loan

Villarreal have completed the signing of Nigerian teenager Quadri Liameed on a one year loan from 36 Lion.

As reported by Futbalgalore.com.ng, an agreement has been reached between the two clubs which will see the 18-year-old spend the next one year in Spain.

Speaking about the move, the Nigeria U20 international told Futbalgalore.com.ng: “I am happy to be with Villarreal now. The club is known for relying on young players and making them better.

“I want to learn a lot at the club, play a lot and help the team to be successful. I hope that we will have many happy moments together.”

Primarily a deep-lying midfielder, the 18-year-old is physically not the most dominating of players. However, standing at 1.80m, he is taller than some central defenders.

The youngster doesn’t rely on his height, though, and instead bases his game around intelligence and technique.

In possession, Quadri is a subtle but penetrative influence from the base of midfield. He likes to drop deep between the centre-backs to act as a first receiver before turning and looking to play vertical passes through the opposition’s defensive block.

He is comfortable receiving the ball with his back to goal and doesn’t falter easily under pressure, showcasing composure beyond his years along with graceful ball control and an ability to resist pressure using his awareness of space and positioning.

Quadri stay deep at all times, however. He does enjoy venturing further forward when appropriate, settling in a higher space to support his team’s possession game as it progresses up the pitch.

He will hold back slightly, as opposed to making forward forays beyond the opposition’s defensive line.

Taking up more of a back-seat, quarter-back role, he will look to take the ball and scan the opposition’s structure in search of holes for through balls to be played.

Defensively, Quadri again makes use of brain rather than brawn to win out. He doesn’t dive into tackles, remaining calm even in dangerous one-on-one situations in which he finds himself up against an attacker without nearby support from defensive team-mates.
